NOSE AND INTAKES

  1. XD235 (then at Southampton), with the radome folded back. Gives you an idea of the amount of plumbing in this area.
  2. Closer view of the end of the nose with the radome open.
  3. Starboard intake. Compare the positioning of the Avon engine here with those in the Sea Vixen.
  4. Lower starboard forward fuselage, showing cannon port.
  5. Lower port forward fuselage, looking aft, showing nose gear door and bay. Nose bay and door interiors are light grey.
  6. Lower port forward fuselage, showing cannon port.
  7. Port intake. As with the starboard intake, you can see the prominent boundary layer splitter. Intake interiors appear to be natural metal with a painted lip. They appear to be lighter in the bottom half here because of all the dust inside them.

PORT FUSELAGE

  1. Port intake side.
  2. Port wing root from forward, looking aft.
  3. Port wing (folded) and jetpipe.
  4. Port engine jetpipe and rear fuselage. In-service Scimitars soon had this area looking well blackened, with the serial often obscured by soot.

STARBOARD FUSELAGE

  1. Starboard rear fuselage and jetpipe.
  2. Starboard airbrake. Closed, unfortunately.
  3. Mid underside, standing behind wing, looking forward.
  4. Mid underside, standing ahead of wing, looking aft.
  5. Starboard intake side and nose.
