FAW.2 XP924 carrying out a flypast; Mark Russell
I have to admit I'd never even heard of the Sea Vixen until I saw the one at the Midland Air Museum. It made a big impression on me; even sitting quietly in the sun with her wings folded, you can almost feel the pent-up power of this massive fighter. As the sun rose higher that afternoon, the little creaking noises coming from the airframe combined with the smells from the aircraft to produce the feeling that this aircraft had only just arrived, and could leave at any moment if called upon. It later transpired my father had served on HMS Victorious when she operated Sea Vixens, so his album of photos produced a small treasure trove of Vixen photos to enjoy - and the beginning of many stories about this hugely impressive carrier-based interceptor.
