Canberra PR.9 XH175 at Hanningfield Metals, August 1993; Alan Allen

XH175 was ready for collection in 1960 and entered the RAF with 58 Sqn at RAF Wyton. When 58 Sqn gave up its PR.9s in 1962, XH175 was transferred to the charge of 39 Sqn, RAF Luqa, Malta. It flew with 39 until 1976 when she was loaned to A&AEE for trials of the Skyguardian Radar Warning Receiver (fitted to the fin and tail cone) after which she was returned to 39 Sqn at Wyton. She was one of 39's PR.9s that transferred to 1 PRU when that unit was set up. XH175 was finally retired and moved into storage at RAF St Athan in January 1982.

The nose section was subsequently bought for preservation and ended up at Hanningfield Metals scrapyard in Essex. After languishing there for several years, the cockpit was purchased by a private owner who moved it to a private location in Worcestershire for restoration.
