"A pilot's dream but an observer's nightmare."
- Brian Fiddler
FAW.1 XN657 launching; scanned from 21st Profile
I have to admit I'd never even heard of the Sea Vixen until I saw the one at the Midland Air Museum. It made a big impression on me; even sitting quietly in the sun with her wings folded, you can almost feel the pent-up power of this massive fighter. As the sun rose higher that afternoon, the little creaking noises coming from the airframe combined with the smells from the aircraft to produce the feeling that this aircraft had only just arrived, and could leave at any moment if called upon. Needless to say, I expended a good few shots on that Sea Vixen alone, and have made sure to seek out any other examples wherever I've travelled. I'm still impressed no matter how many times I see one!
