Jaguar S XW560 at Boscombe Down Aviation Collection, 18th March 2023; Jake Wallace

The first British single-seat prototype (S.06, XW560) was flown on 12th October 1969, going supersonic on its first flight, but would be badly damaged on the ground at Boscombe Down on 11th August 1972 due to an uncontained engine failure that ruptured a fuel tank, resulting in a huge fire. What remained of the airframe after the incident was relegated to ground instruction duties at Lossiemouth, then to Warton until 1977, and by this time just a nose section was left, ending up with No.1343 ATC Squadron at East Grinstead.

Boscombe Down Aviation Collection then acquired XW560 in 2004 where they have lovingly restored the cockpit which is now on display in one of the museum hangars.
