Canberra B(I).68 253 at Laarbruch, 2nd June 1971; Damien Burke collection

XM273 entered service in 1959 with 88 Sqn at RAFG Wildenrath, remaining with them when they re-numbered to 14 Sqn in December 1962. She was next transferred to 3 Sqn (then at RAFG Laarbruch), probably when 14 Sqn stood down in June 1970. In 1972 when 3 Sqn converted to Harriers, XM273 was flown to RAF St Athan where she was declared a Non-Effective Aircraft on 30 June 1972.

She was sold to Marshalls of Cambridge and XM273 was then converted to a B(I).68 for Peru. She was test flown as 'G-52' and delivered to Fuerza Aerea del Peru on 25 November 1975 as '253', in a rather fetching sand and brown over light grey camo scheme. Later painted overall blue, the FAP retired the last of their Canberras in 2008 and 253 has been dumped at Pisco, becoming ever more derelict since then.

If you have information on her service history or more photos, we'd love to see them!
