Lightning F.6 XR771 at Midland Air Museum, 8th February 2020; Adam Poultney

XR771 first flew on 6 20th January 1966 and served with 74, 56, 5 and 11 Squadrons and ended her career with 5 Squadron at RAF Binbrook. Her final flight was from Binbrook to Baginton for delivery to the Midland Air Museum on 23rd March 1988. By 2000 her paintwork had become very faded but thankfully MAM are one of the organisations that do keep exterior exhibits repainted on a steady rolling programme of work, so in the second half of 2002 she was fully repainted. She's begun to look a little faded again now but will no doubt receive further attention when needed.

The photo above shows XR771 sadly looking tatty again after another repaint some years back.
