Gannet AEW.3 XL502 at Yorkshire Air Museum, 23rd September 2023; Jake Wallace

XL502 was operated on the airshow circuit from 1987 to 1989 and has led a more reclusive life in recent years. Stored at Carlisle and subject to some wranglings over ownership, the airframe ended up mouldering away at Sandtoft from 1996 until the collapse of the then-owners operation and sale of the airframe.

Thankfully the Yorkshire Air Museum acquired her and that means the aircraft's future is much brighter than before. The forward propeller had been retained by the company employed to refurbish it after the bill for the refurbishment was not paid by the previous owner, but YAM has managed to either get that one back, or a replacement, for the aircraft and is now complete. She was last repainted some 10 years back by Andre Tempest and still to this day looks superb.
