PORT WING

  1. The extreme port wingtip of K.1A XH648 at Duxford. Dayglo stripes are fading and wearing away; these were used for helping pilots to line up on the tanker when refuelling.
  2. Port wingtip and pitot probe.
  3. Port hose & drogue unit (HDU). Wind-driven generator inside powers the winch.
  4. Closeup on the HDU; the windmill prop has a guard fitted on it.
  5. HDU viewed from outboard; the shuttlecock-like assembly at the rear end is the basket where your refuelling probe would hopefully go.
  6. K.2 XM715's port HDU.
  7. K.2 XM715's port intake. The two intakes underneath were only fitted to Mk.2s.
  8. K.2 XH672 at Cosford with flaps down.

STARBOARD WING

  1. K.1A XH648's starboard jetpipes and inner flaps, slightly lowered. The fairings on the wings slot into the cutouts on the flap's upper surface. Each of the flaps actually wraps around the engine box.
  2. Similar view of K.2 XH672. I presume loss of hydraulic pressure is the only reason that you'd see the flaps down on a static Victor, as XM715 at Bruntingthorpe did not have them lowered when parked, and as she's in running condition no doubt has quite enough hydraulic pressure to keep her flaps to herself.
  3. XH672's starboard outer jetpipe and engine. K.2s were fitted with Conways so a K.1 would look rather different here.
  4. XM715's starboard HDU.
