There were 3? Swift aircraft in the aircraft scapyard at RAF Halton in 1962. All in good condition.
There were also a Bristol Brigand in perfect nick. and about 6 mosquitos.A few meteors and the Beaufighter classroom.

The old Air Pictorial Magazine said 1952 that 'if it looks right then it is right'. But the magazine was wrong! In Sep 1955 I had just been posted to RAF Lynehham @ was excited to see large numbers of Swifts being delivered to 33 MU on Queen Maries. In Jan 58, having spent 18 months in Hawaii, I was posted back to dear old Lynheham & saw the same Swifts bdeing taken away for scrapping. So far as I know, none of the ones I saw ever flew from Lyneham.

There must be someone, in the UK who has photos of early Swifts? Ex 56 Sqn personnel,or those who served in 2 or 79sqns. Although I was employed mainly on Hunters when serving in the RAF, I always had a fascination for the much maligned Swift.
I can remember the Airframe hangar at Halton having a number of Mk1s and 2s in 1956,some of which had never been delivered for service.
