PORT WING

  1. Duxford's FB.5 (WM969) is immaculate, but some of their colour and marking choices seem suspect to me. Compare the presentation of the serial on the port wing here with those on the starboard wings of WF259 and WV856 below.
  2. The wing fold of Duxford's example (shown here in a composite picture) looks so clean and neat, it's like a model.
  3. In contrast, the Fleet Air Arm Museum's FGA.6 (WV856) looks a lot more like an operational Sea Hawk wing fold would have looked like, but perhaps a bit too messy and someone's been a bit over-enthusiastic with the silver spray!
  4. View over the top of port wing of the Midland Air Museum's FGA.6 (WV797). The red bit by the trailing edge is a control lock; definitely a remove-before-flight item!

STARBOARD WING

  1. Now this is more like it, up in Scotland and the Museum of Flight's F.2 (WF259) shows a wingfold with clear detail and a moderate amount of grime, much better than the unrealistic example at Duxford. Too clean for an operational Sea Hawk, but model yours on this and add some more grime, that's my advice!
  2. The underside of the same aircraft's starboard wing. It might like look it's Sky coloured, but it is really white - blame it on the scanner! Compare with...
  3. ...Yeovilton's example (which is Sky but looks white here!), in the earlier scheme where the leading edge does not wrap around nearly as much. Also compare with the wing of Duxford's example (see above).
