Phantom FGR.2 XV460 at Bentwaters, 31st August 2019; Damien Burke

XV460 was retired to decoy duties at RAF Coningsby and appeared to have become an unofficial mascot, being initially very well looked after. Sadly though she met her end at the scrapman's hands as have so many UK F-4s, and only the nose now remains, in the care of 2214 Sqn ATC at Usworth until March 2013 when she moved to Bentwaters. She had served with 14, 19, 31, 56 and 92 Squadrons plus 228 OCU. Briefly on loan to the Bentwaters Cold War Museum, when they acquired a complete F-4, XV460 returned to storage elsewhere on the airfield.
