- An absolute must-visit is Vic Flintham's page on the Phantom
with variant breakdowns and a selection of monochrome and colour pictures.
- Garry Lakin's Phantom Zone has a pile of photos of
RAF and overseas Phantoms, plus colour profiles of each UK operator.
- Gary Parsons' Air-Scene UK includes f4's F4s, with lots of pictures
of UK Phantoms plus the Wattisham Chronicles.
- Rick Kent's camouflage & markings article on McDonnell Phantom in British Service
is well worth a look with some of his lovely color profiles on show.
- And Whiteley's Phantom Shrine has loads of RAF Phantom photos plus individual
aircraft histories and more - well worth a look.
- Nick Hewgill & Robert Small's Phantom Jet Fighter site has plenty of photos
plus a history of RAF Wattisham and 56 and 74 Squadrons and more. Another one worth a visit!
William Daysh's 49ers Reunion Web Site, for RN Aircraft Artificers,
includes a good number of piccies of RN Phantoms in action in the galleries.
- Lionel Smith served with the FAA and his home page includes a section
on the Ark Royal with a good selection of phabulous Phantom photos.
- Wobert's Aviation Homepage includes these entries on the F-4K,
F-4M,
F-4J(UK) and their
service with the RN/RAF.
- Can't forget the F-4 Phantom II Society now, can I?

Warpaint Series No.31 "McDonnell Douglas F-4K and F-4M Phantom" by Steve Hazell, published by Hall Park
Books, 2000. Lots of pictures (mostly monochrome but a good number in colour),
development and service history, scale plans covering the differences on each variant, loads of
colour profiles. Highly recommended. |

Aeroguide 13 - Phantom published by Linewrights Ltd., 1986; ISBN 0 946958 14 9. Aimed at modellers, this slim
volume includes a hefty amount of detail pictures, mostly in monochrome, plus camo diagrams. Out of print but occasionally
Aeroguides show up as bargain offerings at airshow stalls.

Aircraft Illustrated Special: RAF Phantom by Peter Foster, published by Ian Allan, 1989; ISBN 0 7110 1870 7.
Could be tricky to find this one, but it's well worth seeking out. Briefly covers development, then settles in for
a history of the F-4 in RAF service with copious photos, mostly in monochrome but a fair number in glorious colour.
Also includes scale plans and individual aircraft histories. Pity it wasn't published a few years later so that the
story could have been finished off properly!

Wings of Fame volume 15 published by Aerospace Publishing Ltd., 1999; ISBN 1 86184 033 0. This volume includes
a large article on RAF Phantoms, and is worth picking up for that alone - a good history and selection of colour photos,
colour 3-view, cutaway and Squadron breakdown. Wings of Fame volumes could be picked up for less than a fiver at airshow stalls in
2001 - so keep your eyes peeled for a bargain!

The Phantom Story by Anthony M. Thornborough and Peter E. Davies, published by Arms & Armour Press 1994,1997,2000;
ISBN 1-85409-416-5. While a general history of the F-4, this does include two good chapters on the UK Phantoms and is
still worth picking up even if you're not interested in the non-UK stuff. Sadly lacking in colour however, and be aware
that the hardback edition may not include the UK chapters.

- Aircraft Illustrated October 1983: Festive Phantom - centre spread with colour before and after pictures
of XT597 in it's 25th anniversary scheme applied for IAT 1983.
- Aircraft Illustrated July 1987: Falklands Phantoms - article on Falklands ops including the F-4s
of 23 Squadron.
- Air Forces International 92/1: Wildenrath: The Blue Phantoms (short article on the blue
schemes applied to XT899 and XV408 with one big colour picture of each) plus No.74 Squadron, RAF (short
article on 74's F-4J(UK)s with some nice colour pictures.
- Air Pictorial July 1973: Shipborne Air Power - an article on the Ark Royal with plenty of
pictures both monochrome and colour, including 892 NAS F-4s.
- Air Pictorial December 1978: Ark Royal and after - a farewell article with a good selection
of monochrome pictures, including several 892 NAS F-4s (including one showing three 'zapped' by the USN,
one with a 'COLONIAL NAVY' title on the fuselage!).
- Take Off no. 9: The Phantom goes Foreign - part 3 of an article on the F-4, covering foreign operators
including the RN and RAF. Some nice piccies plus a gorgeous bit of art-work of an RN FG.1 launching.
- Unfortunately most of my magazines are still packed away in boxes after moving house in 2001, so any
additional reference suggestions would be welcome!
