- Warbird Images by Jim
Sterling - some great shots on a site that has gone from strength to strength, and is still
steadily expanding. Many previously unpublished pictures. Not entirely warbirds, a few more modern
aircraft to be found hiding away here and there!
- Alan Putland's Battle of Britain site is
an excellent and growing site dedicated to telling the story of the RAF's finest hour.
- Andy's De Havilland DH.98 Mosquito pages.
A fine collection of stuff on the wooden wonder.
- This site on the loss of Lancaster ED627 is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made
on our behalf.
- Steve Birks' Story of the Supermarine Spitfire
site is a good one; much to be found on that most classic of classic fighters, with markings, squadrons,
history, links etc.
- The Spitfire Society aim
to bring together all those who worked on the Spitfire and have been involved in such efforts as
the creation of the replica prototype now in the Southampton Hall of Aviation.
- Fleet Air Arm aircraft;
pages from the IPMS FAA special interest group, currently only covering WWII FAA stuff.
- Beaufighter Strike Squadrons; the Beau was
one of the most successful attack aircraft of WWII, yet no full example survives now, though there is a restoration
going on at Duxford. Details of this restoration, the service life of the Beaufighters and more to
be found at this great site.
- Chipmunks around the world homepage,
covered the first attempt to fly Chipmunks around the world. Since then a second attempt has been
made, successfully - ending up with the Chippies turning up at the RIAT, though they must have hid them
away somewhere because I didn't see them there.
- The Nanton Lancaster Society and Air Museum in Canada, yes,
but the Lanc's a Brit aircraft so the link qualifies :)
- Halifax Aircraft Association - working
on Halibags, the forgotten bomber...
- The Halifax Restoration site
has a load of stuff on the Halifax and comprehensive links to other Halifax sites. Recommended.
- Plane Sailing's Catalina
home page. While not a UK aircraft, it was operated by the RAF and Plane Sailing's Cat is in the UK so it
qualifies for this page!
- The Shackleton Association - actually a site in Oz
but it was a British aircraft. 10,000 rivets flying in formation and all that...
- Air Britain are a historical aviation society, and
have some details of what they do and the publications they bring out.
- Aviation Archaeology -
Military archaeology in Australasia and the Pacific, plus some links.
- Robert Quirk's Home Page - MAP Photo lists,
Scale Aircraft Modelling magazine index, info on WWII RAF/Commonwealth aircraft and squadrons.
- Matthew P. Kortas' Spitfire site.
Picture gallery, history and specs.
- Gannet links are all in my Gannet section.
