An absolute must-visit is Vic Flintham's page on the Javelin with variant breakdowns and a selection of monochrome and colour pictures.
Another excellent site is Mark Howard's Javelin XA699 site, about the Javelin he is restoring at the Midland Air Museum.

BOOKS

Warpaint Series No.17 "Gloster Javelin" by Tony Buttler AMRAeS, published by Hall Park Books, 1999. Lots of pictures (mostly monochrome but a good number in colour), development and service history, scale plans covering the differences on each variant, loads of colour profiles. Highly recommended.

Postwar Military Aircraft 1 "Gloster Javelin" by Maurice Allward, published by Ian Allan, 1983,1999; ISBN 0-7110-1323-3. Excellent development and service history, going into detail of a selection of particular aircraft to further illustrate the story. Lots of diagrams and pictures, all in monochrome. Look upon this as a more detailed version of the Warpaint title without the colour profiles and you have a fair idea what you'll get. Recommended.

Gloster Javelin volume 1 & 2 by Roger Lindsay, privately published. Two excellent monographs with history, squadron markings, indidivual aircraft listings and lots of pictures. Volume 1 covered up to the FAW.6, volume 2 the FAW.7 and up. Sadly these are both practically impossible to find these days - if anybody has them available at a reasonable price I would be interested myself!

MAGAZINES

Aircraft Illustrated August 1984: Gloster Javelin: a production history - part 1 of an article on the development of the Javelin with several monochrome pictures.
Air Pictorial January 1967: Javelin Swansong - two-page article looking at 228 OCU, the last UK-based Javelin operator as it was announced that they would be disbanding, with 5 monochrome photos, plus a Lightning and Canberra thrown in for good measure.
Flight, 9th March 1956: Javelin Variants - presumably a variant rundown, haven't seen it myself.
Lightning Review February 1998: Observations on the Lightning content of Wings of Fame. Actually a brief article by Brian Carroll, and starts off with his comments on what the Javelin was like (Jon Lake's WOF article is disparaging about the Javelin and Brian puts him right on a few things!).
