HUNTER ADVERTISING

  1. A rather nice front cover advert from Hawkers adorning the cover of The Aeroplane in February 1958.
  2. Later in 1958, and Hawkers use the Peru sale for advertising.
  3. Typically corny RAF recruitment advert from 1960.

RAF HUNTERS

Some from Hugh 'Jock' Taylor, Tom McGhee, Nick Challoner and Garry Lakin:

  1. One of the first F.4s, WT636 is pictured at an airshow at RNAS Yeovilton sometime in the 1950s.
  2. T.8B XF995 of 237 OCU, a Buccaneer crew trainer, pictured visiting RAF Laarbruch in 1990.
  3. T.7 XL56? of 12 Squadron at Fighter Meet 1989 at North Weald.
  4. T.7 WV318 of 237 OCU - she doesn't look much different now, and is still flying, in the capable hands of Delta Jets.

RN HUNTERS

From Tom McGhee and Nick Challoner a few pictures showing a range of types and paint schemes:

  1. GA.11 XF300 (860/VL), a FRADU bird resplendent in the grey/white scheme at RNAS Yeovilton on the 4th of August, 1984.
  2. Looking remarkably un-naval, this is, believe it or not, an ex-RN GA.11! WT806 was painted up to represent an RAF Hunter F.6 and was briefly flying on the display circuit. She's pictured on the 22nd of July 1987 at that year's RAF Chivenor Air Day. The more eagle-eyed viewer will spot the arrestor hook...
  3. GA.11 XF368 (863/VL), another FRADU bird showing the duller paint scheme at the April 1990 RAF Waddington Photocall. Note the powerful Harley light in the nose cone.
  4. T.8C XF994 (873/VL), another FRADU Hunter at the July 1992 RNAS Yeovilton Air Day Photocall.
  5. T.8M XL603 (724/VL) from 899 NAS also at the July 1992 RNAS Yeovilton Air Day Photocall; used for training Sea Harrier pilots on the Blue Fox radar, this one is also carrying a Sidewinder acquisition round.
  6. Another T.8M, XL602 of the MoD(PE) BAe Dunsfold, this time at the July 1994 RNAS Yeovilton Air Day Photocall. Many of the RN's Hunters wore this attractive grey and white scheme until the late 80s/early 90s at which point they were repainted in the boring all-grey scheme that Sea Harriers had worn since the Falklands War. The grey canopy is a replacement from a differently painted twin-seat Hunter.
