COMPLETE AIRCRAFT

E254; 20,614 bytes

E261; 22,149 bytes

F.1 E254 at Pragathi Maidan, October 2002; Warbids of India F.1 E261 at Nagpur; Ashit Chakraborty/Warbirds of India
Mounted in what appears to be pretty much standard dramatic fashion is E254; wearing a poorly applied coat of silver paint which has been slapped on over the existing markings! Information current as of 01/10/2002.       Another dramatically displayed Indian Gnat is E261 - Gnat-onna-stick - displayed outside the Canteen Stores Depot, previously to be found at the Maintenance Command HQ. Information current as of 2002.

E325; 24,526 bytes

E355; 22,934 bytes

F.1 E325 at Bombay, 25th August 2002; Sandeep Unnithan/Warbirds of India F.1 E355 at Dundigal; Warbirds of India
E325 carries the markings of No.2 Squadron, IAF on its nose. The aircraft is displayed on a platform surrounded by a small metal fence. Sadly she has suffered from vandalism and has damage to the starboard flap and aileron, and the rear stabilisers are bent too. The spine panelling is also crushed in some areas. Happily though there are volunteers now stepping forward to repair and repaint this aircraft. Information current as of 2003.       E355 is displayed on two pylons in flying position outside a hangar at Dundigal. The aircraft presents a colorful sight, with the rudder being painted yellow, a couple of chequer board markings flanking the roundels, and the entire spine of the aircraft painted black. There are no hardpoints under the wings (possibly removed during transit) and also no ejector seat. The serial number makes it one of the HAL produced examples.

GN-101; 19,943 bytes

GN-104; 20,487 bytes

F.1 GN-101 at Tikkakoski, 1st August 2003; Marko Suo-Anttila F.1 GN-104 at Tikkakoski, 1st August 2003; Marko Suo-Anttila
First of the Gnats produced for Finland, GN-101 is preserved in excellent condition at Tikkakoski. Information current as of 01/08/2003.       Outside the entrance to the Finnish Air Force Museum at Tikkakoski is Gnat GN-104, unusually presented atop a raised platform flanked by trees - which makes photography a challenge! Finland's climate is obviously doing this Gnat no favours, with faded paintwork and clouded canopy in evidence. Information current as of 01/08/2003.

GN-107; 21,607 bytes

IE1059; 24,981 bytes

F.1 GN-107 at Kymi, 1998; Mika Öhman F.1 IE1059 at Palam; Warbirds of India
Looking like it was retired one day and placed in the museum the next, GN-107 is in excellent condition and to be found inside the Flying Museum of Karhula Flying Club at Kymi.       The first Gnat received by the IAF (built in the UK) and is mounted on a pylon aiming for the sky, while in the distance the IAF war memorial stands as a silent tribute to those who did not come back. The plaque in the foreground read "THEIR SELVES THEY GAVE IN THE MOST NOBLE CAUSE BUT ETCHED DEEP IN OUR HEARTS THEIR NAMES LIVE ON FOREVER". Information current as of 12/2003.

IE1062; 20,825 bytes

IE1076; 14,484 bytes

F.1 IE1062 at Dharamsala, 3rd May 1995; Phil Hawks F.1 IE1076 at Tambaram; B Harry/Warbirds of India
An ex 2 Squadron example as you can see from the marking on the nose, this is part of a war memorial in Dharamsala, and was one of the initial batch of 23 Gnats supplied by Folland. It can be found in a park about 15 minute's walk south of the town centre on the road to Delhi. Information current as of 19/01/2002.       IE1076 is a HAL-assembled Gnat. This aircraft is a veteran of the 1965 India Pakistan war and was part of No.23 Squadron based at Pathankot. Though it is not confirmed, it is assumed that this aircraft took part in a some combat with F-86 Sabres during this time.
