I wish I had more good Buccaneer pics, but I'm afraid not... I almost never took pictures when they were in service, and when I started taking pictures, I had a naff camera so those piccies aren't worth publishing.

ADVERTISING

  1. Blackburn NA.39 advert from 1958. Seems the British aviation industry has lost the ability to deliver the goods on time in this day and age.
  2. Blackburn advert from 1960.
  3. A Royal Navy recruitment advertisement from 1963.
  4. Another recruitment ad, this time from late 1964.
  5. A Hawker Siddeley advertisement from early 1965, S.2 XN976 being the star.
  6. Another Hawker Siddeley advertisement, this time from December 1969. Astonishingly honest for an advert, with no ludicrous claims being made at all. Little export success as a result? :-)
  7. Early 1970s, and the RAF get in on the act. £21.35 a week! More recent RAF recruitment campaigns have been rather more sophisticated...!

S.2B XW530 - BUCCANEER SERVICE STATION, ELGIN

  1. Not a sight you are normally confronted with when filling up the car :-)
  2. XW530 is nicely preserved, wheels off the ground, sealed from the wet weather and intakes and jetpipes blanked. Unfortunately a missing RWR bullet and pitot probe mar her appearance slightly, which is presumably down to vandals.

S.2B XW988/ZU-AVI - SOUTH AFRICA

These two pictures kindly supplied by Louis Vosloo and remain his copyright; if you want to use them for anything other than personal use you must contact him and get his permission.

  1. ZU-AVI as she was when she arrived in South Africa. Very nice shot with the mountains in the background...
  2. ...and as she is now, repainted in an overall gloss black scheme to match Mike Beachyhead's other jet warbirds.
